This Journal entry was chosen as it described my feelings of teaching in an environment that I was not accustomed to. It depicts my feelings of dealing with the stereotype of teaching students of a government secondary school. It illustrates how I adapted my pedagogical techniques to ensure that these students were actively engaged and to ensure that learning took place.
It also describes my thoughts after the lesson was delivered. It describes my surprise of the high level of the intellect of the students and how different pedagogical techniques can bring out the best in students of differing capabilities. After this experience my view of these so called "troubled schools" was changed. This lesson illustrated the power of engagement in classroom management as well as the power of authentic teaching in delivering a lesson. This event further aided in my educational metamorphosis and is definitely a moment in my teaching life I will always cherish.
